Backflow prevention devices prevent the cross-contamination of water and are required on any property – both residential and commercial – that has any of the following:

  • Fire hose reels or fire hydrants
  • An irrigation system
  • Commercial or industrial equipment, such as air conditioning cooling towers or chemical cleaning areas that could potentially pollute the drinking water supply
  • Water outlets in proximity to pollutants including grease traps or chemicals
  • Alternate water supplies
If you are uncertain whether your property requires the installation of a backflow prevention device then get in touch with Leakless Plumbing on 0422 442 605 and our team of experienced plumbers will help you determine your legal obligations.

By law, every property that has a backflow prevention device installed needs to have the device tested by a certified plumber at least once every year. Your device also needs to be registered with the council and your test results need to be logged with them as well. Our team can perform your yearly testing, lodge your results, and provide you with the necessary documentation to ensure that you are meeting all your legal requirements.

Frequently asked questions

leakless plumbing Images
We would recommend if you have an electric storage hot water system to check to see if the relief valve that comes out of the top of the tank is hot. If it is hot, you will need a plumber to inspect a possible faulty tempering valve. If the system is cold, you may need a licenced electrician to investigate to see if the Thermostat or element has failed. If the system is leaking water, please contact us to investigate this further.
You should contact us to investigate this further as you may have a partially blocked drain which may need the use of a water jetter/drain machine to clear the issue. We would also recommend using a CCTV drain camera to investigate this issue.
We would recommend checking to make sure that you have no leaking taps, toilets, or hot water systems. With every tap turned off inside we would recommend checking your water meter to see if it is ticking over. If the water meter is ticking over you may have a water leak somewhere on your property. Please contact us as we may have to use our specialised leak detection equipment to try and locate and detect your water leak.
